Is Replika still being developed?+

Its founder has moved on. Eugenia Kuyda stepped down as CEO, and in November 2025 raised $20 million for a different company. Replika continues under new leadership.

Does Replika have erotic roleplay?+

Only for some accounts. Replika removed erotic roleplay in February 2023 and restored it only for users who already had it. A peer-reviewed study of 12,793 Reddit posts from that period measured posts mentioning mental health rising from 0.13% to 0.65%, and posts mentioning refunds from 0.10% to 3.30%. That episode is why “we will not take this away from you later” is the thing Calla promises first.

Is Replika safe and private?+

Italy's regulator fined Luka Inc. €5,000,000 in May 2025, citing no valid legal basis for processing, inadequate transparency and no meaningful age verification. As of February 2026 Replika's age check was still a self-reported birthday. Asked whether Replika could be linked to a user's death, Kuyda answered: “We can't guarantee that.”
